Case Remeo: Efficient operations through centralized weighing data management

Remeo is a full-service environmental management company providing responsible waste management solutions to businesses and households. As a company investing heavily in innovative solutions, its goal is to tackle the challenges of waste management and recycling, reduce existing waste, and become Finland’s leading producer of recycled materials.

Remeo utilizes Tamtron’s weighing equipment and service agreements. Most recently, it adopted Tamtron’s digital mScales weighing service to support more advanced material management and reporting. Centralized weighing data management enhances its nationwide operations.

Simplified weighing operations consolidation with service agreement

Harri Brandt, Sales Manager for Tamtron’s truck scales, notes that Remeo operates 17 truck scales across Finland, as well as other weighing solutions like platform scales.

“One of the truck scales dates back to the 1990s, while the others are more recent. Remeo has made consistent investments in scales, especially over the past decade. Our scales are highly durable, but some of the oldest have had their weighing instruments replaced. With modernization, existing scales can meet updated requirements, extending their lifecycle even further.”

Commercially used truck scales must undergo periodic verification every three years. Maintenance is performed annually, with every third visit combined with verification. Remeo has a service agreement with Tamtron covering both truck scales and periodic verification for platform scales.

“The more sites and scales a customer has, the more helpful it is to have services provided at a fixed monthly cost, without the need to arrange separate agreements for each scale. We schedule everything in advance and get the customer’s approval,” Brandt explains.

Service agreement secures critical operations

Brandt highlights that Tamtron’s scales, specifically designed for Finland’s climatic conditions, are reliable in all weather. Still, a service agreement offers additional advantages in case of issues.

“The combination of high-quality equipment and a service agreement ensures reliability for business-critical operations. Remeo has access to a service desk, where they can call a dedicated maintenance number to speak directly with Tamtron’s technical support. Depending on the scale’s criticality, different response time options are available, meaning a technician with the most common spare parts arrives on-site within a set time window.”

The agreement also required some customization.

“For example, at Remeo’s recycling plant in Vantaa, operations run nearly around the clock, and scales can only be maintained at night. While this is not part of our standard service agreements, it was a key priority for Remeo, so we adjusted the agreement accordingly,” Brandt adds.

Centralized weighing data management supports nationwide operations

With operations spanning from Oulu to Lappeenranta, Remeo operates numerous weighing solutions. By mid-2023, the company identified the need to unify its weighing systems and analyze weighing data nationwide instead of on a site-by-site basis.

“We wanted a single system from one provider, and Tamtron’s digital mScales weighing service was the clear solution,” describes Panu Routasalo, CEO of Remeo.

The service was implemented gradually, site by site. According to Routasalo, the centralized cloud-based weighing service has proven effective.

“mScales adapts quickly to both our evolving needs and those of our customers, helping us remain agile in the commercial waste management market. The service delivers transparent and accurate data, enabling consistent quality across all our sites. We now perform all weighing operations through mScales and manage our scales remotely from one location,” says Routasalo.

Scalable solutions with future development potential elevate Tamtron as a service provider

Currently, Remeo uses mScales solely as a weighing service, but Routasalo sees additional potential for the scalable digital platform to support future applications. The goal is to provide customers with even more comprehensive data to facilitate sustainable waste management solutions.

“mScales is an advanced system offering far more possibilities than we currently utilize. As a pioneer in the circular economy, Remeo is more than just a waste processing company. We want to deliver relevant data through weighing systems, helping our customers verify their recycling rates and carbon footprints.”

Remeo values seamless collaboration with Tamtron, especially the mutual learning experience.

“The collaboration has been excellent overall, thanks to Tamtron’s flexibility, efficiency, and commitment. For example, the mScales implementation project had a tight schedule, which was met without compromise. The best part was the reciprocal nature of the collaboration—I believe everyone learned a lot from the joint development process,” Routasalo concludes.
