Enable uninterrupted, automated and accurate monitoring of material flow.
Belt scales are used when uninterrupted, automatic, and accurate material flow monitoring is required. They can also be easily integrated into a continuous bulk material handling system.
In a demanding industrial environment, a belt scale must be accurate, reliable, easy to integrate with the customer’s systems, and easy to maintain. Typical applications for belt scales include building materials, mining, chemical, fertiliser, metallurgical, and forestry industries. In addition, belt scales are used in ports, loading and unloading equipment, and power plants, where Tamtron has supplied emission-measurement scales for emission trading.

- Enable fast installation with a conveyor-specific design
- Secure long-term performance with full lifecycle support from design to maintenance

Belt scales for material flow monitoring
Belt scales consist of a weighing mechanism and a weighing indicator. Check weights are usually included in the delivery to facilitate in-service maintenance checks.
Tamtron supplies belt scales in accuracy classes 2, 1, and 0.5. Typical applications include wood chips, sand, crushed stone, coal, ore, cement, and fertiliser conveyors with material mass flows of 1-10,000 t/h and belt widths of 400-3200 mm.
The belt scale is installed under the belt of an existing conveyor, replacing one or more rollers. Tamtron also supplies conveyor belt feeders, which feed bulk material into the process at the desired mass flow rate.
mScales automates the weighing process
The belt scale can be connected to Tamtron’s mScales digital weighing service, which allows the weighing process to be automated and the weighing result seamlessly transferred to the entire organisation. The digital weighing service allows all logistical and business systems to be easily connected into a unified system, with each component operating in real-time and weighing events easily managed.
Frequently asked questions
What accuracy can I expect from the belt scale for material flow measurements?
Depending on the conveyor and material characteristics, you can expect measurement accuracy of approximately ±0.5% to ±2% under dynamic conditions.
How does the belt scale integrate into my existing conveyor belt system?
The belt scale is designed for installation under the conveyor belt, replacing one or multiple roller stands. It supports a wide range of belt widths and flow rates and is designed to fit your existing conveyor structure and belt profile for a smooth integration.
Can the belt scale be used for commercial (trade) weighing or process monitoring?
Typically, belt scales are used in process applications for accurate and reliable monitoring of mass flow rates. A belt scale can also be verified for legal-for-trade use, provided that the process and conveyor characteristics meet the requirements.
What industries and materials are the belt scale suitable for?
The belt scale is suitable for various industries, including mining, aggregates, chemicals, fertiliser, ports, and bulk handling. Typical materials include wood chips, sand, crushed stone, coal, ore, cement, and fertiliser.
What conveyor considerations should I address during specification to ensure optimal performance?
Since belt scale measurement takes place as part of the conveyor’s operation, the conveyor must be of sufficient quality, have a suitable installation location for the scale, and ensure consistent material loading for reliable weighing. Tamtron recommends considering the belt scale’s operational requirements during the conveyor design phase.
