High-precision static monitoring system for efficient operation
Scalex RDW Railway Scale is a certified electronic weighing system for precise measurement of wheel loads, axle loads and total weight of railway vehicles. Built around a robust steel weighbridge, the system is designed for rolling stock manufacturers and maintenance facilities that require accurate, repeatable and traceable weighing results.
Key benefits
- Measure wheel and axle loads with high precision in static weighing
- Ensure compliance with an EN 45501 type-approved system
- Weigh individual wheels reliably and repeatably
- Adapt the solution to different rail gauges and vehicle types
- Benefit from a durable, maintenance-free steel weighbridge

Specifications
RDW system is built around a robust steel weighbridge, available in different lengths, capacities, and rail gauges depending on the types of railway vehicles to be measured. Each weighbridge is equipped with four SB load cells, which together with the weighing instrument form a precise and reliable measuring unit.
With a construction height of 400 mm and a width of 360 mm, the weighbridge is designed for long-term operation with minimal maintenance—whether installed outdoors, in assembly halls or in test facilities. Unlike hybrid mechanical systems with sensitive moving components, the fully electronic RDW structure offers high reliability and significantly lower operating costs.
Load cell signals are processed by the 1900P weighing instrument, which supplies the load cells with DC voltage, digitises the analogue measurement signal and displays the wheel pressure on the instrument screen. In multi-weighbridge configurations, each weighbridge is equipped with its own dedicated instrument.
Technical specifications
RDW Railway Scale complies with international OIML recommendations and the EN 45501 standard for non-automatic weighing instruments. The system holds European type approval (TCM 128/20–5753), valid in all EU member states.
Each weighbridge has a weighing capacity of 15 tonnes, reflecting the maximum wheel pressure requirements of modern railway vehicles. According to EN 45501, the maximum permissible deviation is defined for three load ranges:
RDW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM
| Accuracy, load range | Permissible deviation (on official verification) | Permissible deviation (in operation) |
|---|---|---|
| up to 2.5 t | ± 2.5 kg | ± 5 kg |
| from 2.5 t to 10 t | ± 5 kg | ± 10 kg |
| from 10 t to 15 t | ± 7.5 kg | ± 15 kg |
The complete RDW system includes a dedicated terminal and instrument for each weighbridge, as well as a PC running data processing software. This software handles reporting, HRV database management, long-term result archiving, statistics generation and integration with the customer’s information systems, providing a comprehensive environment for analysing and utilising weighing data.
